Teaching and Learning Programmes - Overview

Intensive practical and interactive training to empower teachers with the skills, knowledge and confidence to succeed.

What are they?

The Teaching and Learning Programmes designed and developed at Ravens Wood school and delivered by Third Wave Enterprises are intensive training programmes that empower teachers to consistently deliver high quality lessons. Through practical and interactive development sessions, participants will build confidence as they generate ideas and strategies on how to improve their practice. The programmes are based in real-life outstanding schools which we use as host schools for the programmes.

Third Wave offers professional development of teachers, by teachers, conducted in a school with experts in teaching and learning. Whether you need to enhance performance or maximise existing good practice, our teaching and learning programmes will support staff in fulfilling their potential. Find out more details about the....

The Third Wave approach...

Working with Third Wave means you will recieve a bespoke programme of activity that takes account of your school's individual needs and circumstances. Because the programmes are delivered within a host school, rather than a generic training centre or meeting room, participants are immersed in a learning enviornment where their ideas can be tested and reviewed in real-life, with the support of peers.

How do we know it works?

We have delivered the teaching and learning, Improving and Outstanding Teacher Programmes on behalf of:

  • Leicester City Council
  • Milton Keynes Council
  • Special measures secondary schools in Leicester and Northampton
  • Two federated schools in Wales
  • City Challenge programme areas of the Black Country and London
  • The National College for School Leadership

HMI Monitoring report extract: (Unity College, Northampton 2010)... The quality of teaching has improved. The ITP has had a demonstrable impact, particularly in terms of developing confidence. I noted the following improvements:

  • better display in classrooms promoting an increased sense of ownership in both teachers and pupils
  • a richer and more interesting curriculum, both in terms of content and practical activities, which drew a good response from pupils
  • improved questioning by the teacher
  • more enjoyment and engagement on the part of the pupils

The facilitator notes were really helpful - very informative and helped us to structure the session clearly. Rebecca Rickersey OFP Facilitator.
